Smoke and Co detectors are very important devices.  The code requires a smoke detector in each bedroom and in the hallway of the bedroom area.  In addition, each floor, ( basement, main floor and upstairs), should have a smoke detector.

It is a good idea to also have a CO detector in your bedroom area.  Most smoke detectors are hardwired, meaning AC voltage is supplied to the device.  It still has a battery eternally which should be changed occasionally.  We recommend replacing batteries at day light savings time changes as it would come to mind more easily since you must change the clocks.

If you do not have AC powered smoke detectors, buy the 10-lithium battery type.  They last ten years.  Most smoke detectors only have a ten-year life span and should be replaced at a ten-year interval anyway.

This is a very important item that you should ensure are present and functioning!
